Staff Duties

County Planning Director:
  • Supervision of seven professional and  technical  staff  in  support of  the County Board of Legislators, County Planning Board and the Environmental Management Council;
  • Directs an evolving role in community development initiatives
  • Provides oversight to the coordination of transportation services within the County;
  • Serves as a member of the North Country HOME Consortium Administrative Board, St. Lawrence County Fair Housing Task Force, St. Lawrence County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board, the North Country Corridor Working Group and St. Lawrence County Traffic Safety Board;
  • Currently serves as the regional representative the NYS County Planning Directors organization; and
  • Serves locally as a member of the County’s management, budget and building committees.

Deputy Director:
  • Manages day-to-day office functions and serves as the principal staff to the County Planning Board;
  • Coordinates and directs the provision of planning and zoning services to individual municipalities;
  • Manages the preparation of Community Development Block Grant applications; and
  • Undertakes a variety of GIS related projects.

Planner III:
  • Manages environmental projects for the Planning Office;
  • Lead staff to the County Environmental Management Council;
  • Writes grant applications for infrastructure and waterfront revitalization projects; and
  • Manages the County’s Geographic Information System (GIS)

Planner II:
  • Staff to the County Planning Board;
  • Lead staff for the Ag and Farmland Protection Board; coordinates the 8-year reviews and annual modifications to the Ag districts
  • Prepares Community Development Block Grant applications;
  • Provides technical assistance to local planning officials.

Planner I
  • Staff to the Environmental Management Council;
  • Monitors the performance of  and shepherds the Office’s community development initiatives;
  • Prepares Community Development grant applications; and
  • Provides technical assistance to local officials.

Transportation Coordinator:
  • Oversees the development and performance of the County’s public transit system;
  • Works to coordinate other private and publicly-supported transit elements;
  • Prepares and manages public funding and capital planning requests; and
  • Manages public relations for the transit system

Grants Manager:
  • Provides a grants opportunity clearinghouse function to both other units of local government and interested groups;
  • Writes and manages delivery of a number of smaller grants on behalf of those with insufficient capacity to do so; and
  • Provides training to groups that may have similar interests on grant opportunities

Office Manager:
  • Provides support services to the staff: manages correspondence; maintains files, coordinates meetings, etc.
  • Manages the financial transactions of the office and grants, etc.
